From there, two or three thick coats of glaze are applied, each mixed with plaster and allowed to set before the urn is rinsed with water. Colour goes on next, followed by a coat of varnish, then a second coat, a smoothing stage, and finally a full polish. Each step in that sequence reinforces the one before it. The result is a surface that holds its colour well and a construction that feels light to handle but is genuinely solid.

Glassfibre is a material that combines lightness with durability, which makes the Lysis straightforward to live with. There are no particular fragility concerns with glassfibre, but as with any urn, it is best placed somewhere stable rather than in a high-traffic spot.
