Sealing a funeral urn with care and confidence
Closing an urn is something you want to do once, properly, and with complete confidence in the result. This silicone sealant is made precisely for that moment.
Permanently elastic, reliably bonded
The sealant is 100% silicone and remains permanently elastic once cured. That means the bond flexes with minor temperature changes rather than becoming brittle over time. It adheres strongly enough to close the urn securely, yet can be cut away cleanly with a sharp knife if reopening ever becomes necessary. The risk of damage during reopening is kept to a minimum.
What it bonds and how it performs
This sealant bonds without primer to clear, uncoated glass, ceramic, metals including aluminium, and a range of plastics. Those are the materials most commonly used in cremation urns for indoor display, which is exactly what this product is designed for.
The finish is transparent and remains neat over time. Once applied and smoothed, it is barely visible, so the urn looks exactly as it should.
Full specification
For those who want the detail, the sealant offers the following properties:
- 100% silicone, permanently elastic
- Bonds without primer to glass, ceramic, aluminium and most plastics
- Resistant to water and seawater
- UV and weather resistant
- Temperature resistant from -50°C to +150°C
- Resistant to chemicals
- Colourfast and transparent
Practical guidance for applying the sealant
Applying this sealant well takes only a few minutes, and the process is straightforward. Used correctly, it gives a clean, finished result that holds for years.
Before you begin
Apply only when the temperature is between +5°C and +40°C. The surfaces to be bonded should be dry, clean, and free from dust or grease before you start.
Applying the sealant
Remove the cap from the tube and cut the plastic nozzle at an angle. Apply the sealant evenly along the surface to be sealed and smooth it within 10 minutes using a putty knife or finger dampened with a soap solution. A surface skin will form after approximately 15 minutes. Silicone cures through contact with air humidity, so the joint must remain exposed to the air during curing.
Any fresh marks or residue can be removed immediately with turpentine. Once fully cured, the sealant can only be removed mechanically, by cutting.
A note on reopening
One practical concern people often raise is whether sealing an urn means it cannot be opened again. With this sealant, it can. The cured silicone can be cut away carefully with a sharp knife. It takes a little patience, but the urn itself is very unlikely to be marked or damaged in the process. That reassurance matters, and it is one of the reasons this product suits urns for ashes particularly well.
A small act done with care
Sealing an urn for ashes is not a technical task. It is a quiet, considered moment, and it helps to have a product that makes it straightforward. This sealant gives you a strong, tidy result at your own pace, without the worry of getting it wrong.
Those who have used it describe it simply: 'Firm enough to feel secure, but you know you could open it again if you ever needed to.' and 'Easy to apply and the finish looks neat.' and 'It gave me the confidence to do it carefully, without any risk of causing damage.'
If you would like to add this sealant to your order or have a question about which product suits your urn, we are happy to help you find the right answer at your own pace.
