Two or three thick coats of glaze, each mixed with plaster, are then applied in sequence, with a water rinse between each layer. The colours follow, sealed beneath a coat of varnish. A second varnish layer is added before the urn is smoothed and polished to finish. Each stage has a purpose: the result is a surface that holds its colour and stands up to everyday handling.
