Glassfibre construction: how the Éole is made

The Éole is produced through a layered manufacturing process that takes both precision and patience. A core structure is cast from glassfibre, resin and plaster. On to this, two or three thick coats of lacquer, each mixed with plaster, are applied in sequence, with a water rinse between every layer. The colours follow, then a refinement coat of varnish, then a second protective varnish coat. Finally, the urn is smoothed and hand-polished to an even finish. Every step builds on the last, and you can see that in the result.

For all its careful construction, the finished urn is noticeably light to handle. Glassfibre is dimensionally stable over time, so the colour and finish remain consistent whether the urn has been in place for one year or ten.

What black and white carries

Black and white are not neutral colours. Together they speak of contrast, of two things existing alongside each other: what was, and what is now. The Éole is designed for indoor use. The polished lacquer layers perform best in a dry, stable environment, away from heating elements that could cause the material to expand and contract. Keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight, which can affect the finish over time. Positioned thoughtfully indoors, this cremation urn will hold its appearance for years.
