That second firing gives the ceramic its density, its gloss, and the depth of colour that shifts slightly depending on the light. Because each piece is made and finished by hand, no two are identical.

The word ceramic comes from the Greek keramos, and the material itself has been used to hold things of value for centuries. The Egyptians worked with it long before the Common Era.
