Glassfibre urns are produced through a careful, labour-intensive process. A core structure is formed from glassfibre, resin and plaster, then two or three thick coats of lacquer, each mixed with plaster, are applied in sequence. The urn is rinsed with water between every coat. Colour is added next, followed by a first coat of varnish, then a second. After that final varnish layer, the surface is smoothed and hand-polished. The deep black ground and the red roses you see on this urn are the result of that layered process, not a printed transfer or adhesive decoration.

What the material offers

Glassfibre is considerably lighter than stone or ceramic, but it does not sacrifice durability for that. The surface holds its colour and gloss without any ongoing maintenance. This urn for ashes is suitable for use with or without an ash bag.
