When words fall short, form speaks
Losing a cat leaves a particular kind of quiet. You want something that reflects what she truly meant to you, not something that feels excessive or sentimental. This handmade ceramic cat urn, "Grace", is made by a single artist who shapes every piece by hand. It is composed, genuine, and made with visible care.
Five stages of craft
Each urn takes several days to complete. The clay is kneaded to remove air pockets, then built into form by hand. A slow drying phase, sometimes lasting days, comes before the first firing at around 900 °C. Glaze is then applied by hand, and a second firing at approximately 1,200 °C fuses it permanently to the surface. The result is not only beautiful but genuinely durable and moisture-resistant.
Craftsmanship details
- Hand-modelled ceramic, shaped by a single artist throughout the process
- Glaze bonded to the surface at high temperature, creating a water-resistant finish
- Each piece unique through natural variation in firing temperature and glaze reaction
No two are the same, just as no two bonds are
Because of small shifts in kiln temperature and how the glaze responds, every urn for ashes that leaves the studio is slightly different from the last. "Grace" is available in several colours, each with a quiet, settled tone that sits naturally in a home. On a windowsill, a bookshelf, or a corner that was hers, this urn holds its place without demanding attention.
The heart detail worked into the design is not decorative flourish. It reflects something real: the attachment, the daily presence, the particular bond you shared with your cat. You know what that meant. The detail acknowledges it plainly.
Personalisation
If you would like to personalise the urn, an engraving plate can be added, carrying a name, a date, or a short phrase. It is an option, taken at your own pace, when you feel ready.
Practical considerations
What to bear in mind with ceramic
This cremation urn is designed for indoor use. Ceramic is hard-wearing in a home setting and the glazed surface resists moisture well, but it should not be exposed to frost or prolonged damp, which can stress the material over time. Because every piece is hand-formed and hand-glazed, you may notice slight variations in colour or surface texture. These are not imperfections. They are exactly what distinguishes a handmade object from a factory piece. You receive something that cannot be identically replicated.
The urn is sealed at the base with a cap, which can be secured with adhesive if you prefer a permanent closure. A 24-month guarantee applies.
Finding the right place for her
This urn for ashes is intended for indoor display, and part of choosing it is deciding where it will sit in your home. That is your decision, taken in your own time. If you would like to talk through the colours, the personalisation options, or anything else, we are happy to help at whatever pace suits you.
