Frequently asked questions about cremation caskets

Can ashes be buried in a casket?

In general, yes, ashes may be buried. If you want to know for sure, it’s advisable to check with the funeral home.

What kind of casket is used for cremation?

The exact casket that is used for cremation depends on the service and your wishes. You can purchase a combustible casket to hold the remains during the service. These are usually made of hardwood, wicker, bamboo, et cetera, but will likely not have metal parts.

Alternatively, you may choose to rent a casket for the service, and then use a more affordable option for the cremation process. These are usually made of more cost-effective materials, like cardboard, composite wood, or plywood. Contact the funeral home to discuss the options.

Do you need permission to put ashes in a grave?

Many cemeteries do allow for multiple remains of loved ones to be interred in a single grave space, but this may depend on cemetery policies. We recommend contacting the cemetery to make sure it aligns with your wishes.
