Back to what matters most
There are moments when simplicity says more than anything elaborate could. The Cube keepsake urn in corten steel is built on that understanding: clean geometry, no embellishment, nothing unnecessary. That restraint is not an absence of care. It is care expressed differently.
Corten steel: a material that works for itself
Corten steel is an iron-based metal alloy containing copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel and chromium. That combination produces something distinctive: rather than corroding through, the material forms a dense oxide layer across its surface that seals and protects the steel beneath. No paint is needed, and none is used. The rust-brown exterior is not deterioration. It is the material doing precisely what it is designed to do. Each Cube is formed by bending flat sheet stock and welding it into shape, a process that demands precision and leaves its mark in the sharp corners and clean seams of the finished piece.
What this urn holds quietly
The cube is one of the most fundamental forms in existence: stable, symmetrical, the same on every side. If you are looking for something that conveys stillness and steadiness, this urn fits that need. The reddish-brown surface deepens over months and years, not as decline but as change. Memory works in a similar way: not fixed, but living and shifting as time passes.
Personalisation
If you would like to personalise this mini urn for ashes, engraving is available. A name, a date, or a single word that carries everything you need it to carry. We are happy to talk through the options with you.
Indoor use and placement
This keepsake urn is designed for indoor use only. It is suitable for use with or without an ash bag. Because corten steel undergoes a natural oxidation process, we recommend placing the urn on a dry, stable surface rather than directly on porous stone or stainless steel. In the early weeks, a small amount of loose material or slight moisture may be released as the outer layer settles. This is a normal part of how the material behaves, and it resolves on its own.
Durability and upkeep
The steel is treated during production to accelerate the oxidation process, so the protective layer forms more quickly. In the first few weeks the colour sits at a bright orange-brown. Over time it deepens and becomes more even. Any patches or slight colour variation at the start are inherent to the material and will even out naturally. Cleaning is straightforward: water and mild soap is sufficient. If the surface is ever scratched or chipped, the oxide layer will repair itself, though the colour cycle will begin again from that point.
A place that holds its ground
The bond you shared deserves somewhere just as constant. This cremation urn asks nothing of you: no maintenance, no replacement, no special treatment. It simply needs a place where it can settle and be. If you would like help choosing an engraving or have any questions about the urn, get in touch and we will take the time to think it through with you.
