Two lives, one flower
Some bonds don't end at parting. The Lotus duo cremation urn is made for two people whose lives were woven together, and whose ashes can rest together in a single form.
What the design represents
The urn is shaped as a teardrop with two offset rings of petals that together form a single lotus flower with a bud. That bud is not decorative detail for its own sake. In the language of the lotus, the bud is what has not yet fully opened: a way of holding the idea that the bond you shared continues, even after loss. The form is closed, symmetrical and complete, which is precisely what makes it fitting.
Corten steel: a material that changes by design
Corten steel is a steel alloy combining iron with copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel and chromium. That combination gives it a property unlike ordinary steel: the rust layer that forms on the surface is not damage. It is protection. The dense oxide layer seals the steel beneath from oxygen, and once that layer has stabilised, further corrosion effectively stops. No painting is needed, and none is intended.
When you first receive the urn, the colour is a vivid orange-brown. Over time it deepens and settles into richer, darker tones. That shift is part of what this material is.
How the urn is made
Corten steel is only available as flat sheet. Producing a form like the Lotus requires precision cutting, bending and welding, often using laser or water-jet cutting to achieve the geometry. Every weld and dimension needs to be exact. You can see that care in the clean lines of the petal rings and the tight, symmetrical structure of the finished urn.
Practical information and care
This urn for ashes is designed for indoor use. Keeping it inside protects surrounding surfaces from rust water run-off as the patina develops, and makes the urn straightforward to maintain. The urn is suitable for use with or without an ash bag.
What to expect from the surface
In the first weeks after you receive the urn, you may notice a loose layer lifting from the surface. This is the mill scale that forms during production, and it is not a fault. The urn is treated to accelerate the oxidation process so that the protective patina forms more quickly. Surface cleaning is simple: water and mild soap are sufficient. If the surface is ever scratched or damaged, a new rust layer will form naturally in that area, though the colour cycle in that spot will begin again from the start. Temporary colour variation and minor marking are normal during the early weeks and settle as the patina matures.
Corten steel is a robust material with structural strength comparable to standard steel. It is not fragile, and the fully developed patina surface resists everyday contact well.
Personalisation
If you would like to personalise the urn, an engraving plate can be added, with space for a name, a date or a short phrase that belonged to the two of them.
If you have questions about the Lotus duo or would like to talk through the ordering process, we're happy to take the time with you.
