A heart that stays
A heart shape is not a decorative choice. It is the most direct thing you can say about someone: that they were loved. This cremation urn in corten steel gives that love a lasting, physical form, one that changes quietly over time just as memory does.
Corten steel: precision in metal
Corten steel is an alloy of iron combined with copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel and chromium. The result of that combination is a dense, rust-brown oxide layer that forms on the surface and protects the metal beneath. This patina is not a flaw or a sign of neglect. It is the point. The steel does not need painting because the surface itself becomes the finish. The heart form is shaped by bending and welding sheet metal, or by cutting the form precisely using laser or waterjet technology. That process demands real knowledge of the material, and the quality of the finished piece reflects it.
The meaning of the heart form
If you are drawn to a heart shape, it says something specific about the bond you shared. Not in an abstract way, but plainly: this was someone who mattered deeply. The urn can stand on its own or be incorporated into a memorial, so the place of remembrance can reflect exactly what that person meant to you. Custom sizes are available on request, which gives you the freedom to fit the urn precisely into the setting you have in mind.
Practical, lasting and made to endure
This urn for ashes holds the full volume of an adult's ashes, with or without an ash bag, so you can choose whichever feels right for you.
Living with corten steel indoors
The rust layer on corten steel is an active process, not a fixed state. In the early weeks, the surface will be a bright orange-brown. Over time it deepens and settles into a richer, denser tone. Our urns are treated to encourage this process, but in the first weeks a loose layer of scale may come away from the surface. This is normal and part of how the material behaves. Any marks or minor colour variation that appear early on will resolve themselves naturally. The surface can be cleaned with water and a mild soap. If the surface is ever scratched or damaged, a new oxide layer will form in its place, beginning the colour cycle again from a lighter tone, which may differ slightly from the surrounding patina.
Placement and surface compatibility
This corten steel cremation urn is designed for indoor use only. When choosing where to place it, avoid direct contact with porous stone surfaces or stainless steel, as rust water can stain or affect surrounding materials. It is also worth ensuring there are no recesses or hollows where water could collect, as standing moisture will accelerate corrosion in localised areas in a way that is difficult to reverse.
If you would like to discuss a custom size, or are thinking about incorporating this urn into a memorial structure, we are happy to talk through the options with you at your own pace.
