Ceramic begins as liquid clay, poured into a plaster mould. As the clay builds against the inner walls, the excess is drained away, leaving a shell of even thickness. The urn is removed, dried, and any seam lines are smoothed by hand. The gold heart is applied separately, placed with care before the whole piece goes into a kiln at over 1,000 degrees. That firing is what transforms raw clay into ceramic. The process demands precision and patience, and both are visible in the clean white finish and the quietly considered placement of the heart.
