A butterfly that stays
Some people leave a lightness behind them. A sense of colour, of freedom, of being fully present in the world. If that sounds like the person you have lost, this cremation urn was designed with exactly that quality in mind.
What the blue means here
The blue on this urn is not about grief. It is about sky, about space, about the kind of open horizon your loved one may have cherished. The butterfly carries that further. It is a form chosen not for decoration but for what it holds: the idea that something essential does not disappear, it simply moves into a different state. If the person you are remembering loved nature, or colour, or the feeling of being unrestricted, this shape is not a coincidence. It is a recognition of who they were.
Built up by hand, layer by layer
This is a glassfibre cremation urn, and the material matters more than it might first appear. Glassfibre construction begins with a cast frame of glassfibre, resin and plaster. From there, two or three thick coats of lacquer mixed with plaster are applied to the surface. The urn is rinsed with water between each coat. Colour is added next, followed by a further coat of varnish. Once the final varnish layer is applied, the surface is smoothed and polished by hand.
That sequence of steps, each one completed before the next begins, is what produces the deep, even blue you see on this urn. It is also what gives a glassfibre urn its combination of low weight and genuine durability. This is not a fast process, and the result reflects that.
Craftsmanship details

- Two to three coats of plaster-mixed lacquer applied and rinsed between each layer
- Colour added by hand, sealed under a final polished varnish coat
- Deep, even blue tone consistent across the surface
- Suitable for use with or without an ash bag
Placing it somewhere that fits
An urn for ashes finds its place through association. Think about where this person lived in your daily life, the corner of a room they loved, a shelf near a photograph, a spot beside a flower they would have chosen. Placed there, the butterfly becomes part of the ordinary rhythm of a day rather than something set apart from it. The bond you shared does not need a grand setting. It needs the right one.
Practical care and indoor use
This urn is designed for indoor use, where the polished lacquer finish performs at its best and remains protected. Prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight can affect the surface over time, so a dry position away from strong light is advisable. Kept in those conditions, the colour will remain as you see it now. If you would like to personalise the urn, engraving options are available to add a name, a date or a short phrase.
If you are deciding where to place the urn or would like to talk through personalisation, we are happy to help you think it through at whatever pace suits you.
