A flower that never fades

The lotus rises from still water. For centuries it has carried a meaning that needs no lengthy explanation: life continuing from depth, beauty that holds. If you are looking for a cremation urn that reflects that without saying it plainly, the Bronze Lotus is worth your attention.

Hand-welded in the Netherlands from solid bronze sheet

Each urn is built by hand in the Netherlands. Specialists cut, bend and weld bronze sheet material into a complete lotus flower with bud, working with precision at every stage. The curve of each petal is shaped deliberately. The patina is applied by hand afterwards, which means the colour gradation varies from piece to piece. No two urns are identical, and that is not incidental: it is the nature of the process.

Green or brown patina: your choice

The patina is the oxide layer on the bronze surface, and it defines the character of the urn. Two finishes are available:

  • Green patina: clean with a soft cloth, water and mild soap. Avoid hard scrubbing, as the layer is delicate. Over time, the green tone settles into a more even character.
  • Brown patina: finished with a light wax layer that slows oxidation. Indoors, keeping it dust-free is sufficient. For outdoor placement, the wax layer needs refreshing roughly every two years: apply beeswax with a cloth, allow it to absorb, then buff it off.

Built to last, indoors and outside

Bronze does not deteriorate. The base material needs no special care and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. This urn for ashes is stable in most conditions, and bronze has been used for lasting memorials for thousands of years precisely because of that reliability. Only the patina requires any attention, and the level of care depends on which finish you choose and where the urn is placed.

Practical considerations: strength, stability and placement

Bronze is a strong material and will not crack or break under normal handling. For outdoor placement, set the urn on a flat, stable surface. The brown patina's wax layer actively protects the surface outside. The green patina has no additional protective coating, but the bronze itself remains fully intact in outdoor conditions. If the urn ever needs to be reopened, that can be arranged through the production team.

The bond you shared deserves something lasting

The lotus does not simply represent something beautiful. Across many traditions it carries a specific meaning: that something precious can endure, even when the circumstances around it have been heavy. Choosing this form for a cremation urn is not a decorative decision. It is a way of saying that the person, and what you shared with them, deserves a place that reflects that.

Personalisation options

If you would like to personalise the urn, an engraving plate can be added, carrying a name, a date or a short phrase that says something true about who this person was. Get in touch via the chat or through the customer service team and they will help you work out what fits best.

Custom designs

If you have a specific design in mind, it is possible to develop a bespoke model together. You can send a sketch, a photograph or a reference, and the team will produce a design proposal followed by a quote for your approval.

Lead time and filling the urn

Because each urn is made by hand in the Netherlands using quality materials, the lead time is four to six weeks. In practice it is often sooner, but a six-week lead time is quoted to avoid disappointment. If you need to know the current turnaround before ordering, ask via the chat or email the customer service team directly.

How to fill and seal the urn

All the accessories needed to fill and seal the urn are included. The bronze urn is sealed using a high-bond double-sided closing tape capable of withstanding significant tension. The process is straightforward: place the supplied ash bag into the urn, use the protruding section as a funnel to pour in the ashes, then secure the bag with the supplied cable tie and tuck it fully inside. If you prefer not to use the ash bag, a household funnel works well to avoid spillage. Once filled, make sure the inner seating edge is clean, dry and free of dust or grease using the cloth provided, then press the cap into place in a single movement until it sits flush. You are also welcome to leave the filling to the crematorium or funeral director, and if the urn needs to be reopened at any point, the production team can assist.

This urn is also available in a smaller version. If you have questions or would like to talk through the options, get in touch via the chat or customer service team and they will help at whatever pace suits you.
