A final journey on the water they loved
If the sea, a river or the coast held real meaning in someone's life, it makes sense that their final resting place reflects that. This cremation urn is designed specifically for burial at sea: it floats briefly at the surface, then sinks naturally and biodegrades completely within a matter of days.
Made from Tonolith-Anhydrit: a natural mineral material
This urn is crafted from Tonolith-Anhydrit, a material derived from natural gypsum deposits. Anhydrite is the dehydrated form of gypsum, with the chemical formula CaSO₄, formed by compaction over geological time. That makes it a genuinely mineral substance, not a synthetic alternative, one that returns naturally to the earth or, in this case, to the water. Each urn is then hand-airbrushed using water-based, environmentally friendly paint. The ocean blue surface varies slightly from piece to piece as a result. That kind of finish takes patience and a steady hand, and the care taken is visible in the result.
What happens when the urn meets the water
The urn comes with a cord, which allows you to lower it into the water with care and intention. It floats at the surface for a short time, present and visible, before sinking naturally to the seabed. Within a few days the material breaks down completely, leaving no residue and causing no harm to the marine environment. If you need to delay the ceremony, the urn can be stored safely indoors in dry conditions, where it will hold its shape and colour for as long as needed.
Keeping the urn in good condition before the ceremony
Anhydrite is moisture-reactive by nature. That is precisely what makes it break down so thoroughly once it reaches the sea. Before the ceremony, store the urn somewhere dry. Avoid damp rooms, outdoor storage or exposure to rain in the days leading up to the burial. Handled with that straightforward care, the urn will remain completely intact until it is placed in the water.
The colour of open water
The ocean blue of this urn for ashes is not an incidental choice. Blue carries the quality of space and horizon, of a place that extends further than the eye can follow. If the bond you shared was tied to water, to the freedom of open sea or the rhythm of the coast, this colour holds that memory in a form you can recognise. The urn is complete as it is, but personalisation is available if you would like to make it something more specific to the person you are remembering.
Personalisation options
If you would like to personalise this cremation urn, engraving can be added, allowing space for a name, a date, coordinates of a place that mattered, or a short line of text. Small additions that give the ceremony a shape others present will recognise and remember. Get in touch and we will talk through the options with you at your own pace.
