Where the water carries the farewell
Some farewells belong at the water's edge. If you are choosing a burial at sea, this cremation urn was made for exactly that moment: a final journey that begins at the surface and ends in the deep, leaving nothing behind but memory.
Hand-finished from mineral to urn
The urn is made from Tonolith-Anhydrit, a mineral that forms naturally through the compaction of gypsum deposits. Anhydrite is the anhydrous form of calcium sulphate, known for its dense, stable structure. It was chosen for this urn not because it is convenient, but because it is fully biodegradable and leaves no trace in the water. The exterior is hand-airbrushed in a sand tone using water-based, environmentally friendly paint. The soft, organic colour gradations you see on the surface are a direct result of that handwork. No machine process produces the same effect.
The ceremony at sea
A rope is included to lower the urn into the water with care and composure. It floats briefly at the surface before descending slowly to the seabed. Within a few days it breaks down entirely and naturally. Nothing remains to burden the water or the ocean floor.
The footprints that remain
The name of this urn refers to something real: the mark a person leaves. Not only in sand washed over by the tide, but in you, in the people around you, in everything they touched. Those footprints do not disappear with the water. They remain long after the urn has been absorbed into the sea. Choosing a burial at open water is a way of carrying that thought into the gesture itself.
Keeping the urn at home beforehand
If you would like to keep this urn for ashes at home before the burial, that is straightforward. In a dry indoor space it will hold its shape and appearance well over time. Anhydrite is sensitive to moisture, so avoid humid rooms such as a bathroom or an unheated outbuilding. A dry, sheltered spot is all it needs.
Practical care for a fragile moment
Because the material is designed to break down naturally, careful handling matters from the outset. Check the urn for any transport damage as soon as it arrives and keep the original packaging until the day of the burial. Anhydrite is a firm but considered material: it is not fragile in ordinary handling, but it is not indestructible either, and it deserves the same care you would give to anything that matters. Keeping it in its packaging until you are ready protects both the urn and your plans for the day.
If you have questions about burial at sea, local regulations or transport, we are happy to talk it through with you at whatever pace suits you.
