Grade 316 stainless steel: what that means in practice

Not all stainless steel is the same. This urn for ashes is made from grade 316 stainless steel, which offers significantly greater resistance to corrosion than the more common grade 304. That matters if the urn will be placed outdoors, near the coast, or in any environment where moisture and salt are a factor. The brushed finish is directional, meaning the surface catches light at different angles and produces a subtle, shifting sheen rather than a flat shine. The result is a clean, cylindrical form that sits naturally alongside modern memorials in steel, glass or natural stone, as well as more traditional settings.

Handcrafted in the Netherlands

This cremation urn is made by hand in the Netherlands by specialist craftspeople using the best available materials. Because each piece is produced to order, the lead time is four to six weeks. Filling and sealing the urn

Everything you need to fill and seal the urn is supplied with it. The process is straightforward, and the urn can also be filled by the crematorium or funeral director if you prefer not to do it yourself.

How to fill the urn step by step

• Place the supplied ash bag partly into the urn, leaving a section outside to act as a funnel, then pour the ashes in
• Secure the bag with the supplied cable tie and push it fully into the opening
• If you are not using an ash bag, a separate funnel is recommended to avoid spillage
• Clean the inner seating edge with the supplied cloth, ensuring it is free of dust, grease and moisture
• Remove the protective film from the lid and press it firmly into the rim in one smooth movement; when correctly sealed, the lid sits flush with the body

The seal uses high-bond double-sided tape rated to withstand significant tensile force, so once closed the urn is fully airtight. You can also place ashes directly in the urn without an ash bag if you prefer. The grade 316 steel and airtight closure make this entirely safe. If you think the ashes may need to be moved or transferred at a later stage, using the ash bag makes that easier.

Personalisation and custom design

Laser engraving is available as an option for this urn. A computer-guided laser beam works directly on the steel surface with a high degree of precision, and the result can be reproduced in greyscale or in colour. The quality of the engraved image depends on the resolution of the file you supply: the higher the resolution, the sharper the result. When you order, you will be guided through a menu where you can select the engraving option and upload your image or text.

Practical reassurance

Guarantee, returns and long-term care

This cremation urn carries a ten-year guarantee, which reflects the confidence placed in the craftspeople who make it. If you order and then change your mind, you have thirty days to return it. Grade 316 stainless steel requires no specialist maintenance and will not rust or degrade under normal conditions, indoors or out. If the urn ever needs to be reopened for any reason, the manufacturer's technicians are able to do that for you.
