A tree that holds its ground
Some people want a place for their memories that they can actually see and touch. Not tucked away, but present in the room, honest about what it is. This sculpture urn for ashes combines a powder-coated steel tree of life with a glass ashes pendant and a hand-finished wooden base, with space inside the base to hold a meaningful portion of ashes.
How it is made
The tree is cut from 2 mm steel and powder-coated to a matte black finish. Powder coating is an electrostatic process: fine powder particles are bonded to the steel under heat, creating a smooth, even layer that is noticeably more durable than conventional paint. The wooden base is finished and toned by hand. Inside the base, a small reservoir holds the ashes, sealed with an aluminium disc. It is quietly integrated into the piece, but purposefully there.
The glass ashes pendant
A small hook sits at the centre of the tree. The glass ashes pendant that comes with this cremation urn hangs there, but the hook will also hold a piece of jewellery, a charm, a ring or any small item connected to the person you are remembering. The choice is entirely yours, and that choice is what makes this piece specific to them. A bracelet she always wore. A charm that meant something between the two of you.
What the tree of life represents
Trees carry symbolic weight across cultures and across time. They grow slowly, hold firm, and reach between earth and sky. As a memorial image, the tree of life reflects someone who was present, who grew, and who remains connected to those they loved, in a different way now. This is not a vague comfort symbol. It is a concrete image of continuity.
Sharing the memorial across a family
Because this urn for ashes holds a portion of the ashes rather than the full volume, it lends itself to a considered decision: more than one piece shared among family members, so that each person has something tangible at home. For many families this feels more fitting than a single, centralised memorial that not everyone can visit.
Practical considerations
This sculpture is designed for indoor use. When choosing where to place it, bear that in mind from the start.
Materials and what to expect
The wooden base is a natural material. Knots and slight surface variations are part of that, and changes in temperature can cause fine cracks to appear over time. This is not a fault in the piece; it is how wood behaves. The powder-coated steel tree is robust and well suited to everyday indoor conditions. If you would like to personalise the memorial, an engraving plate can be added, with space for a name, a date or a short phrase.
If you are unsure where in your home this piece would sit best, or what you would like to hang from the hook, we are happy to talk it through with you at whatever pace feels right.
