Metal and wood, made with care

The bear is cast from 2 mm steel and finished using powder coating, an electrostatic process in which negatively charged powder is applied to the steel surface and then cured in an oven. The result is a smooth, even layer that bonds firmly to the metal and protects the sculpture from daily wear. The base is wooden, hand-finished and tinted by hand. That kind of work takes patience, and you can see it in the finished piece.

Set into the wooden base is a small plastic ash tube that you can fill yourself with a symbolic portion of cremation ash. It seals securely and sits out of sight within the base of the sculpture, present but private.

The glass ash pearl

The sculpture comes with a hollow glass ash pearl. You can fill it with a lock of hair, a small piece of fabric from a favourite item of clothing, or another personal keepsake. The pearl can be worn, or hung from the dedicated hook on the sculpture itself. The opening closes with a small screw cap. Using an ash jewellery filling kit is recommended for a careful, precise fill.

Practical things worth knowing

Wood is a natural material and may carry small knots or surface variations. With changes in temperature, fine cracks can occasionally appear in the wooden base. This is not a manufacturing fault; it is simply how wood behaves. To keep the sculpture in the best possible condition, place it indoors on a stable surface and away from direct heat sources such as radiators or sunny windowsills. The steel bear itself is well protected by the powder coating and will hold its finish with normal, careful use.
