A memorial object with two functions

This cremation urn combines two ways of holding someone with you. The base is a hand-finished wooden plinth housing a small ash tube, and rising from it is a powder-coated steel figure with a glass heart pendant at its centre. The steel is 2 mm coated steel, finished using an electrostatic powder-coating process: fine negatively charged powder is sprayed onto the steel, then fused in an oven to produce a hard, even, matte surface. The result is a finish that is both durable and considered. The figure's three-dimensional spiral form gives it a quality that is genuinely sculptural, present on a shelf or table without clamouring for attention.

How the ash tube and pendant work

The wooden plinth contains a recess that holds the included plastic ash tube. The tube fills easily at home, and once filled the recess is sealed with the included self-adhesive disc. The glass heart pendant hangs from a hook that is built into the sculpture's design. You can wear the pendant yourself, or use the hook to add another small keepsake: a lock of hair, a folded note, a charm your person always wore. Both the ash tube and the glass heart pendant are included with the sculpture.
