A bird that stays
Some memorials ask to be noticed. This one simply exists, quietly and solidly, in the place you choose for it. The bronze bird is small in scale but carries real presence, a lasting mark of the freedom your loved one found and the bond between you that remains.
Cast using the lost-wax method
This memorial statue is made using the lost-wax method, known in its traditional form as cire perdue, one of the oldest casting techniques still in use. A wax model is encased in a ceramic shell. When heated, the wax melts away and molten bronze, an alloy of copper and tin that has been used for permanent sculpture for centuries, is poured into the cavity. Once cooled and released from the mould, each piece is finished and patinated by hand. No two are identical.
What the bird represents
Across many cultures, a bird is understood as a symbol of the soul freed from earthly ties, yet still connected to those left behind. If the person you have lost was someone you associate with lightness, freedom, or an easy, unconstrained presence, this figure carries that quality forward. You might place it on a windowsill with a view, in a quiet corner of the garden, or beside the photograph you will never put away. The symbolism works because you give it meaning, not because it is labelled.
Built for wherever you need it
Bronze is one of the most durable materials used in memorial sculpture, which is why this bird is equally at home indoors on a remembrance shelf or outside through every season.
How bronze behaves outdoors
Left outside, bronze gradually develops a patina: a natural deepening of colour that gives the surface greater richness over time. This is not deterioration. It is how the material ages, and many people find that quality fitting for a memorial piece. Bronze is resistant to rain, frost and UV exposure, so no structural maintenance is needed. If you prefer to slow the patination and preserve the original colour, a light application of bronze wax or clear protective lacquer once a year is sufficient.
For indoor use, no maintenance is required at all.
Indoors, bronze needs nothing from you. It will look exactly as it does now in five years and in twenty.
Something that lasts as long as the memory
The bond you shared deserves a memorial that does not fade or chip or need replacing. Bronze is honest in that way: solid, straightforward, built to endure. This bird takes up very little space, but it is always there, on the day you place it and on every ordinary day after that.
Personalising the space around it
The figure carries meaning on its own and does not require engraving to do so. If you would like to personalise the space where it sits, consider adding a small stone, a handwritten card, or a memorial light alongside it, carrying a name, a date, or a few words. The bird becomes the centre of something considered, rather than a single object standing alone.
If you have questions about this memorial statue or would like to talk through how it might work in the space you have in mind, we are happy to help at your own pace.
