A name that stays

Sometimes one word changes everything. A name. Two dates. A phrase that only the two of you ever used. Having text engraved directly onto a ceramic cremation urn makes the memory tangible in a way that nothing else quite does.

How the engraving is done

The letters are cut into the ceramic using a laser. On flat surfaces, sandblasting is used where needed to produce a clean, sharp finish that is fully integrated into the material itself. The lettering can also be filled with colour. This requires both precision and an understanding of the material, because ceramic responds differently to engraving than metal or wood does. The engraving is always placed on the widest, flattest section of the urn so that the result is legible and well-proportioned.

You approve the design before anything is engraved

Within a few days of placing your order, you will receive a layout proposal to review. Take your time with it. If you would like any changes, you can request them before giving your approval. The urn only goes to the engraver once you are satisfied with what you see. After approval, the additional production time is approximately four weeks. No changes can be made once you have given final approval, so the review stage is there specifically to get everything right beforehand.

What engraving means for this urn

The bond you shared deserves something that does not fade. A name lasered into ceramic is permanent. Not as decoration, but as a statement of belonging: this urn is his, hers, yours. If you wish, you can also add a short phrase, something the person always said, or a date that meant more than just a number on a calendar.

Durability and care

Because the letters are engraved into the ceramic itself rather than applied to the surface, the text is resistant to everyday handling in a domestic setting. Ceramic is a dense, non-porous material and the engraving will not lift or peel. If colour-filling has been added to the lettering, avoid contact with abrasive or caustic cleaning products around the engraved area to keep the colour intact over time.

What customers have said

  • 'The engraving made the urn feel immediately more personal.'
  • 'It was reassuring to see the layout first and make adjustments before anything was finalised.'
  • 'The name and dates gave it exactly the something extra we were looking for.'

Before you confirm your text

Please read through the text you are submitting with care. Once final approval is given, corrections are no longer possible. The review stage is your opportunity to check names, dates and wording before the urn goes to the engraver. If you are choosing text engraving for a funeral urn and would like to talk through the wording first, we are happy to help you think it through at whatever pace suits you.
