This grave lantern is made from grade 316 stainless steel, an alloy of iron, chromium, nickel and carbon used wherever durability is non-negotiable. Grade 316 offers stronger corrosion resistance than the more common grade 304, because its composition is specifically reinforced for exposure to moisture, rain and frost. The lantern requires no special maintenance and will not rust or discolour over time. A brushed grain runs across the surface, catching light at different angles and giving the lantern a distinctive, lasting finish that does not fade with age.

The clean, modern profile sits naturally alongside contemporary and traditional memorials alike, whether they are finished in bronze, glass, natural stone or stainless steel. A recess at the base allows the lantern to be secured to a stone plinth or the memorial itself using a plug fixing, keeping it stable and properly positioned even in strong wind.

Why a lantern is protection, not an accessory

If you place a candle directly on a memorial, there is a real risk of wax dripping onto the stone. Wax penetrates natural stone and leaves stains that cannot be removed with ordinary cleaning products. Restoring the surface requires professional repolishing. A grave lantern prevents this entirely. It protects not only the light, but the memorial beneath it.

Practical considerations and outdoor durability

Grade 316 stainless steel is fully weatherproof for year-round outdoor use and will not rust or discolour under rain, frost or prolonged exposure to damp air. The brushed surface retains its appearance without polishing or treatment. If you want a fixed installation, the base recess allows secure attachment to a plinth or monument using a standard plug. One practical note: the candle or tealight is not included with the lantern and should be purchased separately.
