An angel that stays close
Some losses leave you searching for something that simply holds its place. This freestanding bronze statue of a sitting angel does exactly that. It is not decorative in the usual sense. It is a presence, patient and still, that asks nothing of the people who stand before it.
Cast by hand using the lost-wax method
This statue is made using the traditional lost-wax casting process, known in French as cire perdue. Each piece begins as an individual wax model, which is then encased in a ceramic shell before molten bronze is poured in. Once cast, every statue is finished and patinated by hand. The result is that no two pieces are identical. You are not choosing from a production run. You are choosing an object with its own character, shaped by the hands of a single craftsperson from start to finish. A dowel fitted to the base allows the statue to be placed securely on a plinth, surface or monument of your choosing.
What the seated posture means
The angel is seated. Not departing, not distant. That choice carries meaning. Standing or flying figures often suggest passage and freedom. A seated angel suggests something different: steady company, patience, presence without urgency. If the person you are remembering was someone who listened, who stayed, who offered comfort quietly, this posture says what words often cannot. Should you wish to make the tribute more personal, engraving can be added to the plinth or base on which the statue rests, carrying a name, a date or a phrase that belonged to the two of you.
Durability and practical reassurance
Bronze has marked graves, gardens and public spaces for centuries. It is not a material that needs careful handling. Even so, there are a few things worth knowing before you decide where this statue will stand.
How bronze behaves outdoors
This statue is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, including placement at a grave or in a memorial garden. When exposed to air and moisture over time, bronze develops an oxidised surface known as a patina, ranging from grey-green to darker brown tones. Some people find this natural ageing fits well with a memorial that is meant to endure alongside memory. If you prefer to keep the original bronze colour, a periodic application of clear beeswax or bronze oil is sufficient. Once or twice a year is enough. If you are placing the statue at a cemetery, it is worth checking the site's guidelines in advance, as rules on memorial objects vary between locations.
Stable and freestanding
The dowel on the base is designed for secure fixing to a plinth, pedestal or grave monument. The statue will stand firmly even in wind and rain, without needing to be anchored beyond what the dowel provides.
A decision worth taking your time over
If you are considering this statue, you are probably thinking about more than where it will stand. You are thinking about who will see it, what it will say on behalf of the bond you shared, and whether it reflects the person you are remembering with the honesty they deserve. That is not a small consideration, and there is no reason to rush it. If you have questions about placement, the patination process or personalisation options, we are happy to talk it through with you at your own pace.
