When the water is the right place to say goodbye
Some people belong to open water. They are drawn to its movement, its scale, its restlessness. If you are looking for a way to scatter ashes on the sea or a river, this small biodegradable sea urn is made for exactly that purpose.
Made by hand from mulberry bark and banana leaf fibre
This keepsake urn is crafted by hand from paper produced from the bark of the mulberry tree. The bark is carefully harvested without cutting the tree down; it grows back naturally, making it a genuinely renewable material. Once harvested, the bark is cooked into a soft pulp, blended with flowers from the Ixora plant, and spread by hand across special frames to dry in the sun. The dark blue colour comes from fibres of banana leaves worked into the paper during this process. The result is not something a factory produces at volume. Each piece requires patience, close knowledge of the material, and attention at every stage.
Independently verified production standards
Production takes place under the SMETA 4-Pillar standard, which means independent verification of labour conditions, environmental practice, and business integrity. You can be certain this urn has been made responsibly, from the harvest of raw materials to the finished piece.
What happens when the urn meets the water
Once placed on the water, this cremation urn floats for a short time before sinking gently and with dignity. Within a few days the material breaks down completely and the ashes return to the water naturally, leaving nothing harmful behind.
Practical guidance before use
This urn is designed exclusively for outdoor use on open water. Because it is made from biodegradable paper, it is not suitable for prolonged contact with moisture before the moment of scattering. Store it somewhere dry until you are ready. Kept dry, the structure remains fully intact and the urn will behave exactly as intended when it meets the water.
The meaning of returning to the water
The bond you shared does not always need a permanent object to hold it. For some people, water is the most fitting symbol there is: always moving, without boundary or fixed point. Returning ashes to the sea or a river is a way of giving someone back to something vast and enduring. It is not the right choice for everyone, but when it fits, it fits completely.
A small urn for a considered ceremony
This is a mini urn for ashes, intended to hold a portion rather than the full volume. That makes it well suited to moments where several people each wish to say goodbye separately, or where part of the ashes will be kept or interred elsewhere. Each person can be present at the water in their own time and in their own way.
If you would like to talk through whether this urn suits the farewell you have in mind, we are happy to help you think it through at whatever pace feels right.
