The heart is cut from 2 mm steel and finished by powder coating, an electrostatic process in which negatively charged powder is bonded to the steel surface and cured in an oven to produce a smooth, colour-fast coating that holds up well over time. The base is wooden, hand-finished and brought to a consistent colour by hand. The whole piece is executed in black, which suits the clean, modern lines and gives the object a settled, quiet presence.

A symbolic ash compartment at the heart of it

The wooden base contains a recessed space sized to hold the ash tube that comes with the sculpture. You fill the tube with a small amount of ashes, set it into the base, and seal the recess with the self-adhesive disc provided. The sculpture then holds something real of the person you loved, visible in your home, in whichever spot feels right to you. As a keepsake urn, it carries that presence gently rather than formally.
