A name set in stone

Some things deserve to be made permanent. A name, a date, a phrase that says precisely who someone was. Text engraving into natural stone does exactly that: not as a symbolic gesture, but as a physical, lasting mark.

How the engraving is done

The letters are cut into the surface of the stone, not applied on top of it. This means the text becomes part of the material itself. Once engraved, you can choose to have the lettering filled with colour, which makes the text easier to read and gives it greater visual presence. This is skilled craft work. It requires precision and care, which is why engraving adds approximately three weeks to the standard delivery time, counted from the point at which you approve the final design.

What you can have engraved

The choice of text is entirely yours. Possibilities include:

  • A name alongside dates of birth and death
  • A personal phrase or a line that meant something between you
  • An initial or a symbol that reflects who your loved one was

If you are looking for something that makes the bond you shared visible and enduring, engraving offers that. It becomes part of the urn itself, not an addition to it.

What to know before you order

Engraving into natural stone is permanent. That is the point of it, but it also means care is needed before you confirm your text. Please read through your wording carefully before placing the order.

Approval process and delivery time

Once your order is placed, you will receive a design proof to review. The engraving only goes ahead after you have given your approval. From that point, allow approximately three weeks on top of the standard delivery time for your cremation urn.

Durability and aftercare

Because the text is cut into the stone rather than sitting on the surface, the engraving holds up well to everyday handling. Natural stone is a robust material by nature. If you have chosen to have the lettering filled with colour, use mild cleaning products when wiping the surface to protect the painted finish over time.

If you would like guidance on what text might suit the urn for ashes you have chosen, or if you want to talk through the wording before committing, we are happy to help you think it through at your own pace.
