A wave that never settles

Some memories need a place to live. Not as a replacement for what you had, but as something tangible that holds the connection to the person you loved. The Delft Blue keepsake urn 'The Wave' by Royal Delft is made to be that place.

Painted by hand, piece by piece

Royal Delft has been producing hand-painted Delft Blue since 1653, and the process behind every piece remains as considered as it has always been. The keepsake urn 'The Wave' is painted by master painters using specialist brushes made from marten and squirrel hair. Each design begins with charcoal outlines, and from there every detail is placed entirely freehand. The paint itself is water-based, its colour built from a cobalt oxide mixture prepared to a centuries-old recipe. During the firing process, that painted layer transforms beneath the glaze from black to the characteristic deep blue. This is not an accident of the kiln but a precise chemical reaction, controlled through expertise accumulated over generations. What you are holding is something into which real time, knowledge and skill have been placed.

The meaning behind the wave motif

The wave is not a decorative choice made for its own sake. Water moves, returns and carries no fixed beginning or end. If the person you are remembering was someone who brought energy, who left a presence that is still felt, the wave motif speaks to that directly. The bond you shared does not stop, and neither does this image. That is what makes it a considered tribute rather than a general one.

Considered in shape, secure in use

The form of this keepsake urn is organic and easy to hold. It sits comfortably in a home setting, visible enough to be meaningful, quiet enough to belong anywhere.

How the urn is sealed

The urn is closed at the base with a natural cork and a blue sealing disc that complements the overall design. This combination keeps the contents secure during everyday handling and gives you confidence that nothing will shift over time.

Caring for your keepsake urn indoors

This is an indoor urn. Glazed ceramic is susceptible to frost damage and prolonged moisture exposure, so it should be kept in a dry interior location, away from direct sunlight. Doing so will protect both the painted surface and the material itself over the long term. This is not a limitation of the design but simply the nature of fine glazed ceramic, and it is worth knowing from the start.

If you would like something more personal

Royal Delft offers the option of a bespoke decoration, developed in direct conversation with one of their master painters. A shared symbol, a specific memory, a motif that belonged to the two of you: these can be worked into an individual design. If that is something you would like to explore, get in touch and we will talk through the possibilities at your own pace.

A funeral urn does not need to be solemn to be meaningful. This one carries the weight of what it holds through craftsmanship and care, and it is designed to remain with you as something you are glad to have close.
