Something to hold, something to keep
Sometimes a small, quiet object carries more than you expect. This Royal Delft keepsake urn holds a portion of ashes and sits gently in your home, present in the way that matters most.
Hand-painted by master craftspeople
Royal Delft has been making Delft Blue ceramics since 1653, and that history is not just a number. It means this mini urn for ashes was painted by hand in the same factory, using the same process, that has defined Dutch ceramic craft for over three centuries.
Decorating begins with charcoal outlines, which the painter then fills freehand using brushes made from marten and squirrel hair. The paint itself is water-based, and depth of colour is built up by varying the dilution with water. The characteristic blue does not exist in the pot: the cobalt oxide mixture, prepared to an age-old formula, appears black under the glaze and shifts to that familiar Delft Blue only during firing. It is chemistry and patience in equal measure.
The 'Rustic Flowers' motif
Flowers have carried meaning in Delft Blue tradition for centuries. They stand for something that blooms, passes and is not forgotten. The 'Rustic Flowers' pattern was chosen with that in mind: it speaks to a life fully lived and to the bond you shared. If you would like to go further, Royal Delft offers the option of a personalised decoration, developed in direct conversation with one of their master painters. Please get in touch and we can discuss what that process involves.
Practical details worth knowing
Ceramic is a lasting material, and this urn is built to sit with you for years. There are a few things to bear in mind before you decide where to place it.
Placement, closure and care
This keepsake urn is designed for indoor use only. The base is sealed with a compact closure and a natural cork stopper, keeping the contents safely enclosed. Depending on your choice within the collection, the seal is available in blue or white. Ceramic is susceptible to breakage if knocked or dropped, so choose a stable, flat surface away from edges and out of reach of high-traffic areas. Keep it away from damp conditions, as prolonged moisture can affect both the glaze and the seal over time.
A craft that has earned its reputation
Royal Delft is the oldest active Delft Blue factory in the Netherlands. Every urn in this range is made by designers, craftspeople and master painters who work specifically with memorial pieces, drawing on motifs that carry meaning: nature, the arc of a life, love that does not end. This cremation urn is the result of that process.
