Something to hold, something to keep

Sometimes there are no words that feel right. What helps is something tangible, something that carries meaning in a quiet way. This handmade and hand-painted keepsake urn from Royal Delft offers exactly that: a beautifully crafted ceramic vessel that holds a portion of ashes, and a little of the bond you shared.

Hand-painted in a tradition going back to 1653

Royal Delft has been producing Delft Blue ceramics since 1653, and the Blue Flower is made using the same hand-painting process that has defined the craft throughout. Each piece begins with charcoal outlines, which the studio's master painters then develop freehand using specialist brushes made from marten and squirrel hair. The paint is water-based; depth of colour comes from adjusting the ratio of pigment to water, a skill that takes years to develop. The decoration is applied using a mixture that is predominantly cobalt oxide, following a centuries-old formula. During firing, what appears as black beneath the glaze transforms into the distinctive blue that Royal Delft is known for. You see that process in every finished piece.

The Blue Flower motif

The Blue Flower design was developed by Royal Delft in collaboration with designers, craftspeople and master painters. The floral motif draws on a body of symbolism rooted in the natural world: seasonal change, the passage of life, longing and enduring love. In the classic blue-and-white palette of Delft Blue, it reads as familiar and considered at the same time. This is not decoration chosen at random. It carries layered meaning for those who look for it, and sits quietly for those who simply want something beautiful.

At home in any room, present in every sense

If you are looking for a urn for ashes that belongs in a living space rather than apart from it, the Blue Flower fits that need. The ceramic form is compact enough for a windowsill or bookshelf, and its rounded shape makes it comfortable to hold. It holds its place in a room without demanding attention, while remaining meaningful to anyone who knows what it is.

Closure and care

The Blue Flower keepsake urn is sealed at the base with a blue security seal and a natural cork stopper, keeping the contents secure over time. Ceramic is a stable, non-hygroscopic material, which means it does not absorb moisture and holds its form reliably in normal indoor conditions. To protect the hand-painted decoration over the long term, keep the urn away from prolonged direct sunlight, which can gradually affect the intensity of the pigment.

Personalisation options

Beyond the existing collection, Royal Delft offers the possibility of a bespoke hand-painted decoration. If you have a particular motif, image or idea in mind, this can be developed in direct conversation with one of the master painters, who will translate your wishes into a finished design. It is a way of ensuring that this cremation urn carries not just a style, but a specific story. If you would like to explore that option, we are happy to talk it through with you.

Take the time you need to look at the Blue Flower and the other Royal Delft mini urns for ashes, and choose what feels right for the person you are remembering. We are here if you would like help along the way.
