When farewell becomes the beginning of something living

Some people leave something behind that keeps growing. This bamboo keepsake urn makes that possible in the most literal sense: the ashes of someone you loved are absorbed by a young lavender plant or tree, becoming part of new life. Not as a metaphor, but as a biological process that unfolds in front of you.

Hand-finished from a natural bamboo stem

Each urn is crafted from a bamboo stem, shaped and finished entirely by hand. Bamboo is a living material with its own grain and structure, and no two sections behave identically. That demands patience and precision at every stage, and the result is an object that looks grown rather than manufactured. Bamboo captures significantly more CO2 during its growth than timber does, and the urn is fully biodegradable. Over time, the bamboo dissolves naturally into the soil, allowing the roots of the plant above to reach the ashes beneath.

How it works

The urn is supplied with a 70 mm coconut tablet containing lavender seeds and a starter nutrient. Using it is straightforward:

  • Hand-finished from a single bamboo stem, no two pieces identical in grain or tone
  • Supplied with a 70 mm coconut tablet containing lavender seeds and starter nutrient
  • Fully biodegradable, dissolving naturally over time with no chemical residue

Fill the urn with the ashes, place the coconut tablet on top and water it so it expands, then bury the urn in the ground and cover with soil. Germination typically begins within three to four weeks, with March to June being the best period for sowing. If you prefer a different plant, you can place a seedling or cutting of your own choosing above the urn instead.

Lavender and the rhythm of returning seasons

If you plant the included lavender seeds, you are choosing something that comes back each year. Lavender is a perennial: it dies back in winter and returns in spring. That cycle fits the bond you shared. Each flowering season arrives quietly, without ceremony or effort, and without needing any words.

Practical details and outdoor use

This mini urn for ashes is designed exclusively for outdoor use, buried in the ground. It does not hold the full volume of an adult's ashes, and that is by design. You choose a place, a plant and a moment. The remaining ashes can be kept or placed elsewhere. Because bamboo weathers and breaks down naturally with no chemical residue, the urn is well suited to gardens, natural burial grounds and other open-air locations. It is not intended for indoor display or storage.

If you are looking for a farewell that does not simply end but passes into something visible and living, this cremation urn offers exactly that. Take your time choosing the spot that holds meaning for you both, and if you would like to talk through the options, we are happy to help at whatever pace suits you.
