The metamorphosis of a butterfly symbolises the change from the physical to the spiritual.
The butterflies, in which a symbolic quantity of ashes can be kept, are entirely handmade from Forest Stewardship Council wood. By using only high quality, FSC-certified wood, the habitat of flora and fauna around the world is protected. Once the elegant wings and other parts of the butterfly have been carved from wood, colours are applied using a small airbrush. This is a painting technique which uses precision spraying and takes many years to master. This gives every butterfly a unique paintwork, in which small details ensure the variation.
